GYBO 2018: Choosing the right keywords for your business.

What are keywords?
Keywords are ideas and topics that define what your content (business, webpage, blogpost) is all about. They are the words or phrases that people type into search engines when looking for a business like yours or a topic of interest to them.

For example, if I wake up in the 5th of January 2018 and suddenly realise that I added about 5kg during the Christmas and new year holidays. I would consider ways to get the excess weight off. I could consider using a weight loss diet, a weight loss coach or better still join a gym near me to not only lose weight, but get fit at the same time.

So because I live in Oluyole estate, I go to Google and search for “gyms in Oluyole estate” That phrase is a keyword.

How can you use keywords?

Keywords are used in websites, webpages, blogposts, social media posts (#hashtags), paid ads and so on. Keywords increase the chances of your contents being seen by the people who need them.

How do I choose your keywords?

Think like your potential clients. If I needed to buy what I sell, what would I type in a search box? Write about 20. Then arrange them in order of relevance.

Also, ask your clients, especially those who found you online what they search/searched for when looking for businesses like yours.

Thirdly, ask Google. Yes for example, search for “fitness keywords” then localize them.

Lastly, you can use the Google AdWords keywords planner. This is a tool created by Google for use with Google ads so that you can reach potential clients.

Of course this post doesn’t contain all you need to know but I hope you have gained something new.
